Boys Brigade

Each week The Boys’ Brigade works with thousands of young people, many of whom have no other connection with the Church. Today we are working with over 50,000 children and young people in over 1500 companies in the UK & Ireland.

The Boys’ Brigade provides a balanced programme of activities for children and young people from 5 to 18 years old. We hope through these programmes we will be able to make a positive contribution to a young person’s life and be able to share our faith.

The 44th Aberdeen Boys’ Brigade Company was enrolled at Mannofield Church on 5th December 1907 so we celebrate our 110th year in 2017.

As with most BB Companies we have 4 sections –
Anchor Boys is for boys aged 5 – 8 (P1 – P3)
Junior Section is for boys aged 8 – 11 (P4 – P6)
Company Section and Senior Section is for boys aged 11 – 18. (P7-S6)
The Seniors and Company Section meet as one.

We are a young minded, progressive and active Company, involved in both Church and Battalion life. We pride ourselves on constantly evolving, trying out new ideas, games and activities in all Sections. We have an enthusiastic group of both boys and officers.

Our Anchor Boys are a lively, energetic and sometimes noisy bunch. They especially enjoy games like dodgeball and football as well as story time and doing crafts. These link into the Anchors award scheme zones of Body, Mind, Spirit, Community and Creativity. Anchor Boys meet on Thursdays from 6pm – 7pm.

Junior Section is all about fun, in playing games and sports, crafts and quizzes, trying new things and making new friends. The boys will be looking for greater independence and are developing a competitive edge. Juniors follow a similar award scheme to Anchors with the same Body, Mind, Spirit, Community and Creativity zones. Junior Section meets on a Thursday from 7.00 – 8.30pm.

Company Section is where the BB adventure really begins. There is a wide range of games, sports, activities for both indoors and outdoors. Boys work through the new Discover Award Scheme learning about a range of new and old subjects as they work towards Presidents and Queens Badges. For those ages 15+ the award scheme is called Challenge Plus with a mix of smaller challenges and more substantial projects to complete.

Although we are a traditional Company there is a very modern streak within despite not doing activities such as drill. However Bible class, horse and bars are still done and we now have many different activities. In the summer we have an outdoor program which includes things like a bike ride, tennis, tubing and a BBQ.

The Company has its own website at www.40four.co.uk and is also on Facebook at facebook.com/44thaberdeenbb
