Vacancy: Intergenerational Mission Worker

INTERGENERATIONAL MISSION WORKER

Mannofield Parish Church, Aberdeen

Introduction

Mannofield Church is a welcoming, outward‑looking Church of Scotland congregation committed to being a vibrant, multi‑generational church rooted in community, faith, and mission. We are intentionally transitioning from managing decline towards preparing for growth — and growing into the community with boldness, joy, and welcome.

To support this vision, we are seeking an Intergenerational Mission Worker: someone relational, creative, and mission‑minded, who can help all ages belong, participate, and flourish in faith. This is a strategic, locally funded post — a sign of our commitment to future mission and to the flourishing of our parish.

The Post

This Post is initially a Fixed Term Post for 2 years. Our hope and intention, is that on seeing evidence of successful outcomes of the work, it will become a continuing post beyond the initial Fixed Term.

Purpose of the Post

To grow faith, strengthen intergenerational life, deepen community engagement, and support Mannofield Church’s mission to be a vibrant, welcoming, multi-generational, and caring congregation rooted in faith and service.

About the Church of Scotland

The Church of Scotland is a national Church providing ministry, care, witness and service across the whole of Scotland and engaging in other parts of the UK and across the world. As well as providing worshipping communities of faith that testify to the relevance of the Christian faith, it also plays a significant part in the community life of Scotland in a variety of ways and adds significantly to the culture and spirit of the Nation. The Church of Scotland today works in partnership with others, including churches from around the world, ecumenical partners, interfaith networks, charities and individuals. It engages with Government and civic society, believing that the Good News of Jesus is relevant within the spheres of politics and decision making, as well as in our local communities and congregations.

About Mannofield Church

Mannofield Church is part of the Church of Scotland and is located in the West End of Aberdeen, within the Presbytery of the Northeast and the Northern Isles. In 2031 we will celebrate 150 years since the dedication of our original church building — a milestone that reflects a long history of community‑minded, outward‑looking ministry across generations.

Our story is one of engagement: Mannofield has always sought to serve both the local community and the wider world, nurturing faith and connection across all ages. In 2016 we completed a full refurbishment of our buildings, enabling greater openness, flexibility, and partnership with the community around us. Our halls are well used throughout the week by both congregation and community groups, and our café (open Monday to Saturday) has become a popular gathering place for friendship, conversation, and welcome.

Our worship aims to be engaging and relevant to peoples lived experience. We adopt a liberal theological approach, listening for God’s word spoken through Scripture in ways that encourage people to anchor their lives in a faith that is both thoughtful and grounded. Above all, we seek to be a welcoming and inclusive congregation — a place where people feel comfortable, valued, and at home.
